In Honor of Christopher Columbus

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The second Monday of October is a federal holiday in the United States to celebrate Christopher Columbus, the explorer (believed to have been born in Genoa) who arrived in the New World - the Americas - in 1492. Columbus left Spain in search of a new trade route to Japan but instead landed on an island in the Bahamas. He named this place San Salvador. Columbus received credit for being the first European to discover the Americas, although the Norseman Leif Ericson actually arrived in North America almost 500 years before the Genoese navigator.
