I am sitting at my kitchen table writing this post. The fall colors peaked here in Richmond, Virginia last weekend, but I am fortunate to live on a wooded city lot near the James River. As I look out the windows at all the trees, I see mostly golden-yellows, greens and touches of brownish reds - very similar to the colors in the tapestry pictured below:

This house in the photo belongs to Donna Temple Brown, owner of an antiques shop in Houston called The Gray Door. Veranda featured Ms. Brown's home in its January - February 2009 edition, and I will share the photos with you. The Houston designer Pamela Pierce, who is such a favorite with blog readers and Pinterest pinners, provided the design consultation. All flowers are by Mary Jane Ryburn. Enjoy!

Donna Temple Brown was inspired by designer John Saladino's "use of drapery to define areas." She "hung a tall, sheer panel alongside the staircase in the same hue as the wall, downplaying the stairs and creating a backdrop for art displayed on an easel."
